Gotta get my finger out

Been a long time since I've been able to start on the project. With Xmas just gone. The finances have dried up a little so it's going to be a struggle to get the funds to really get stuck into this project. The pic at the top of the page has been changed to one I found on the internet. When I get this thing finished it hopefully should look something like this with a slightly different colour scheme. While this bike is getting built I will probaly purchase another 900 to ride around on as not having a running bike and being stuck driving a car around is starting to send me crazy.
At least I managed to fix the hole that was drilled into the frame by the idiot who had owned it previously. Just have to get the frame painting finished then I will put up a before and after pic of the frame. Currently researching the best option for the radiator and which ones fit the best.

Been a while

Haven't posted for a while as I've not had the time to do anything on the bike these last few months. A slight change of plans. After scratching my head on trying to figure out the best way to repair the frame I've decided on the best plan of attack. Also the powder coating of the frame is out because it's a pain to remove if needed later on. Going to paint the frame now.

Frame

Spent a couple of hours today grinding down some of the welds on the frame just to tidy things up a little. The front fairing mount looked like it had been broken at some stage and the repair job on it wasn't the best.

I will get that rewelded the same time as I get the other repair done, then it will be a trip to the sandblasters.

Wishlist 1

While browsing the net for ideas and parts I stumbled across this site from Japan. J-Parts. They sell some stuff for the GPZ900. I really like the look of these side covers, should look good and they will suit the style I'm looking at.
A bit expensive but probably no more than new covers from Kawasaki.

Frame

The bike was stripped down to a bare frame. I noticed that one of the bolt holes for the fairing bracket had been stripped so somebody or should I say something had decided instead of fixing it they just drilled a larger hole into the frame and used a bloody big bolt. (Idiot!). So I now have to have this fixed before I get the frame powdercoated.
I have marked the offending bolt hole with an arrow. Will most likely be using stainless steel bolts where possible on this bike. I am still undecided as to the colour the bike will be painted when finished although I have a couple of ideas.

The Beginning

Welcome to my Kawasaki Gpz900R restoration site. Many years ago I purchased a Gpz900, although she ran great and looked a little rough around the edges the price was good. I rode it around for a few years, then one day the starter clutch decided to give up the ghost as this seems to be a common problem with these beasts. The bike was pulled down so I could repair it but as happens other priorities kept popping up. The bike ended up on the back burner for a few more years. Recently I decided that I had to do something about it and planned on doing a ground up restoration job. The plan is to restore the bike but also add a few custom touches to make it different from all the others.
